Episode 5: Nina Poots Lutherie

Thoughts and Reflections
My visit to Nina was a bit unplanned. I had originally planned to go visit Jill Ryan in Glasgow, who makes gorgeous mandolins and bouzoukis. However, a day or two before my visit, she unfortunately caught an unexpected illness. However, because I had expressed my immense interest in especially representing women and other under-represented instrument makers, Jill was quick to recommend her friend Nina Poots, who was happy to accomodate me at the last minute. I hope to go back to viist Jill at some point too.
I'm so glad that I was able to visit Nina, because I definitely got a lot out of this meaningful visit. Generally, I had tried to avoid visiting violin and guitar makers. Firstly, because there are so many of them, and weeding out unique stories is predictably harder. And secondly, violin and guitar makers esepcialyl operate with such a high degree of precision and engineering, that (at this point in my career) am too inexperienced to understand yet. I'd feel like a dummy talking with them.
