About Me
I’m David Lien, a creator and educator in the performing arts.
Growing up in Seattle, my love for music was nurtured through studying music, playing in orchestras, as well as composing music. I pursued a degree in Composition from the New England Conservatory in Boston, where I collaborated with diverse musicians and expanded on my knowledge. At this time, my passion for theatre and teaching led me to earn a Masters in Theatre Education from Emerson College. I then taught music and drama in Massachusetts public schools for several years.
An interest in travel and cultures took me abroad to Kyrgyzstan for three years and later Japan, where I currently reside and continue teaching. During this nomadic period, I also discovered new interests like storytelling, filmmaking, and instrument making. I started visiting instrument workshops wherever I went and connecting with musicians worldwide, amassing quite the instrument collection along the way. This journey inspired me to launch a new project: creating videos that showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of music artisans.
